Taken (2008)

Brian Mills wants to get close to his daughter, Kim. After a short visit to Kim’s birthday party, he goes home and parties with his old colleagues—one of them offers him a job. At the job, he protects a famous singer from an attack by fans. The next day Brian meets Kim and her mother. Kim needs daddy’s signature for a trip to Paris with her friend—Brian refuses. The next day Brian signs the form, and takes Kim to the airport. In Paris, Kim and her friend are greeted by an apparently charming Eastern-European who turns out to be a bad-guy who will later kidnap them for sex-trafficking purposes. Brian then goes to Paris to kick some ass and save his daughter.

Want to see everything that’s wrong with modern society condensed into 93 minutes? Look no further than Taken; this generic action flick will do that for you with no reluctance! Co-written by Luc Besson—creator of Léon—Taken degrades women and Eastern-Europeans alike!

Women are powerless in Taken; they are portrayed as unintelligent drones who must rely on men to save them from the evils of the world. Eastern-Europeans are generalised as criminals, and good people are portrayed as selfish-nutters who will kill 50 innocent civilians in order to save their daughters, disregarding any laws they may break. One question—what happened to Kim’s friend? Who cares? Kim was safe! Fuck the other girls.

This generic, predictable and prejudice piece of cinematic piffle highlights the selfish, bigoted nature of humankind with no shame, whatsoever. Oh well; there’s lots of shooting and stuff, that makes a film “good”, right?

No.

Film grade:

F

Here's a trailer--to see the film in all it's sub-standard, bigoted glory; rent it out (don't buy it, you wont want to keep it).
